Number the Stars
Plot:
In Nazi-occupied Denmark, ten-year-old Annemarie must try to be brave when her parents take in her best friend, Ellen Rosen, who is Jewish, and pretend that she is a member of their family, and then help the Rosens escape to Sweden.
Problems identified by students:
- The Danish Jews need a safe place to hide
- The Jews need resources in their hiding spot
Solutions designed by students:
- An underground shelter that the Jews could climb down into via a hanging ladder
- A pipe delivery system to get limited amounts of water to the people in hiding
